Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Valencia star Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to David Ornstein.
The 21-year-old Georgian ‘keeper has enjoyed a fine season with the Spanish giants, playing every minute of their 35 La Liga matches so far this term.
He is expected to be rewarded for his fine form with a bumper move away from the Mestalla, with Ornstein reporting on Monday morning that Villa are interested.
However, they are set to face steep competition for his signature, with the report also stating that Tottenham, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Porto are all circling.
According to the report, Mamardashvili has a €100m (£87m) release clause, though it is understood that this is unlikely to be met if he does leave.
Implications for Villa
There is one obvious concern with Villa targeting Mamardashvili, that being that it opens the door for Emiliano Martinez to leave.
The Argentine has been a star in B6 since his arrival from Arsenal in 2020, but his stock has rose so rapidly that he may have outgrown the club.
Martinez has become a star on the international stage, playing vital roles in Argentina winning both the Copa America and the World Cup.
Many fans are preparing for a departure this summer, with The Mirror linking both Chelsea and Manchester United with moves on 12 May.
However, Martinez is contracted to Villa until 2027 and Villa are in a strong position financially, so they will command a mammoth fee.
It would be naïve of Villa to not line up potential replacements for Martinez should he decide to leave, with Mamardashvili being one of many options.
Brentford ‘keeper David Raya could provide an interesting option with the Spaniard being out of contract next summer, though Dean Jones told Give Me Sport on Saturday that Chelsea are also interested in him.
The same report linked both Chelsea and Spurs to Andre Onana, who was also linked with Villa by Calcio Mercato back in March.
It seems that there will be a merry-go-round for goalkeepers this summer, meaning Villa have plenty of options should Martinez jump ship.
